Influences of our Short Film
Before beginning to film, we decided to have a look at a few horrors, to see what sort of story lines are used, and which story lines get the most attention and best ratings from their audience.
After watching a few, it became apparent to us, that the two horror's that are similar to the story line which we have in mind are 'Comedown' and 'Scream.'
'Comedown' is about 6 friends, who've known each other from childhood. They break into the tower block that they had lived in as children(which is now deserted) to rig-up a pirate radio station, get high and party. When one of the group goes missing, her friends begin to search the dark interior of the tower and soon realize that they are not alone: a resident psychopath lurks in the shadows and is hunting them down, taking them out, one-by-one...
'Scream' is about an anonymous killer that guts two high school lovers. Because of this, a mysterious rise in fear and rumors rise in a peaceful Californian town. A killer starts killing high school teenagers, with a young teenage girl, an eccentric and dramatic cop, and a selfish and ambitious reporter trying to investigate the murders. A strange number of events starts to happen, including an accused killer, a suspicious boyfriend, discovered love and attraction, and, of course, the mysterious killer with a ghost face mask.

BBFC Research
The British Board of Film Classification(BBFC), is a non-governmental organization, founded by the film industry. It is responsible for the national classification and censorship of films within the United Kingdom. This means that they chose what certificate is appropriate for different films. For example, films that are suitable for young children, usually four years and above would be given the certificate 'U' which stands for Universal. 'PG' stands for Parental Guidance which means that there may be some part of the film unsuitable for children to watch unaccompanied. '12A' means 12 Accompanied; a child must be with an adult if they are 12 years or around that age. The rest of the certificates are ages that you must be to view the film such as 12, 15 and 18. R18 means restricted 18.
The certificate the we believe would be most suitable for our Opening Sequence is a 15. A 15 film allows Any of the following: strong violence, frequent strong language , portrayals of sexual activity, strong verbal references to sex, sexual nudity, brief scenes of sexual violence or verbal references to sexual violence, discriminatory language or behavior, drug taking.
The reason for choosing this certificate for our piece as it contains relatively strong language and references to sex.

Genre Research
After choosing that the genre for our short film is going to be a Horror, we decided to do some research into what the conventions of a horror movie are, so that we can include this in our Opening Sequence. We found out the following:
Set- The set for a horror movie, is usually somewhere dark and run-down, usually in the middle of nowhere, isolated. Also, the place normally has a 'dark' history that the characters uncover throughout the movie. Places that are usually used include abandoned buildings such as Hospitals or Mental Asylums, old farm houses, or large houses in the countryside.
Camera Work and Editing- POV shots are usually used to give the viewer the sense of being either the Antagonist or the Protagonist; usually from the view of the killer or monster chasing after someone. High Angle shots are used to show that a character has high vulnerability. The pace of one shot to the next is usually always fast as this builds up the tension.
Sound- Most of the tension is usually built up from the use of non-diegetic asynchronous sound. 'Eerie' music or disturbing sound effects are normally used for this. Diegetic sounds such as screaming and footsteps can also add to this tension.
Lighting- The lighting in almost all horror movies is low key, so that not everything can be seen, and leaves spots hidden by darkness.
Characters- Main Protagonist- Hero or Victim; The Villain (could be a monster or human such as a psychopath or murder) Stupid Teenagers that almost always end up being killed (Usually a blonde girl) Children; Police officers or Sheriffs; and the usual Ghosts, Spirits, Demons e.c.t.

Production Logo Ideas
As we began to plan our Main Task, one of the stages that we needed to look at was choosing our Production Logo. This logo, will probably appear at the beginning of the piece, therefore it needs to be something that an audience member will remember and recognise in the future. Below, are some idea's that my group and I have come up with so far.
