Evaluation Question- 5 (Who would be the audience for your media product?)

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Our media product is aimed at and certificated to 15 year olds and above. Our media product has no specific gender in which it is aimed at and because it is certificated a 15, 15 year olds usually watch anything therefore, this product would be suitable for both male and females. Because we have specifically target marketed our audience, the outcome we expect is to have a majority of a primary audience.

In my opinion, it could be said that our media product does conform to the 'Social Class Theory' stereotype; this is that all young people go out drinking in clubs and end up in trouble with the police. This is because in our piece we show a series of events, two innocent young girls going out to a party, the next day one of the girls end ups dead as a result of the previous night, enigma, it is not clear how it happened.

From my BBFC film rating research, certificated 15 films usually end up showing some form of violence, sexual activity and drug taking. We show girls drinking alcohol and a suggestive nature of violence as it is vocally expressed that a girl has ended up dead.
Our media product is a horror film. To make sure that I was statistically correct in my facts I researched what type of audience usually engage in horror films, I found that it is mainly 15-24 year old. As a result I believe that it is correct of me to have rated this opening sequence a 15. However, earlier on I mentioned that because we have directed our piece to 15 year old's our audience would therefore be a primary audience, however, from these statistics it could be said that our piece.

Film- Final Part- Problems that occured

During the course of filming our final part, we came across many problems, that we will need to take into consideration for future filming.

First of all, filming at a bus stop, there were members of the public standing around, and frequently came into the shots. Because of this, we decided to wait a while, and this put filming back by a couple of minutes.

A lot of the POV shots had a lot of background noise, which will need to be taken out during the editing process.

Finally, when the filming took place, it was very bright outside because of the hot weather. For a horror movie, it will have to be made a lot darker, again during the editing process.

Film- Final Part- What did we do?

Having a checklist of things we needed to do, we were able to film relatively quickly before we lost the natural lighting outside, as we did not want to film in the dark.

First of all, Amber used her special effects makeup to create cuts and bruises on herself; and used other makeup to make herself look creepy and old. We then  asked my Dad if we could use his axe.

We then went outside, and filmed Monique and I leaving my house, and walking down the road, towards the bus stop.

We then had an over the shoulder shot of the bus times on my phone, and then use walking up through the woodland.

We then used the snap of a twig next to the camera, which made us turn round.

Amber then screams from behind the camera, whilst I am doing a POV shot.

Finally, the CCTV shot, and the last POV shot of myself facing Amber, will end the piece.

Music Plan- What are we using

We wanted to use a song that would be close to Bring Me the Horizon's 'Hospital Of Souls' as it is up beat and would build up the tension in most of the scenes. One of our friends tried to re-create it, but it sounded too similar, and we decided not to use it due to its original copyright laws.

In the end,we decided to research copyright free tracks, and found a track that was suitable for the piece, which we are allowed to use.

Updated Story Board

We have now also got rid of shots 6, 7, 8 and 9 as the party scene made the project look more like a trailer than an opening sequence.

Lots of problems

During the period of time leading up to filming the final part, all of the boys that were meant to be in our piece, dropped out due to college and work schedules. Because of this, we had to change the story line of our piece, and try to find people that would replace them.

Unable to find anyone. we decided to change what we were doing completely, and just use the people in our groups as the characters.

Starting to Film- Change to Second Part

After editing our 'Party Scene' it became apparent to us, that it did not look realistic enough, due to the lack of people participating, the sound and the lighting. Due to this fact, we changed our location so that we were able to incorporate resources that were available to us, such as a sound system and a lighting deck.

When we finished filming, we discovered that it was a good decision to re-shoot, as the shots came out so much better, and the 'party' itself looked much more realistic.

Gaining Experience

During the period of time leading up to my own task, I was asked to take part in another groups short film as the 'dumb blonde' character. Doing this, it gave me more experience of being in front of the camera, and showed me what is the best way to portray the character that is needed; this character being very similar to the one that I will be in my own piece.

Opening Credits (Research)

Before adding Credits to our Opening Sequence, we did some research to see which sort of people should be included, and which are the most important.

Opening Sequence Questionnaire (Review)

This is the questionnaire that we are going to hand out, after we have finished recording and editing our Opening Sequence, so that if there is any negative feedback is given, we can change it before we finalise our end product.

Change to 'Hell Pictures' Animation

We had to change our animation due to the fact that the first was not compatible, and stopped working with our short film. This is now our final animation.

Camera Equiptment

Starting to Film- Second Part

After filming the CCTV shots, we chose to shoot the 'Party' Scene,as again it is one of the shortest. For this, we used the Drama Studio at school, as the tools are there already to make it look as realistic as possible, such as lights and a sound system. Again, we used the Tri-Pod so that the filming was smooth and at the correct angles required. Disadvantages of doing this at school was that there were not many extra's used, so the party looked a bit bare, and the Non Diegetic, asynchronous sounds of the background music was relatively quiet as well as the Diegetic, synchronous dialogue of the character.

Finally, we shot our 'Hospital' Scene. This also took place in school, in the Medical Room. This was good as the resources needed, such as a chair and a hospital bed, was already provided. The only problem was that having to film in there, there was a lot of interruptions of people needing the toilet, therefore there was a lot of stops and re-shooting. Lighting and sound for this scene was good, using natural lighting and the lighting in the room. which is new and therefore high key.

Overall, all the scenes final pieces were to the highest standard possible, and shooting these scenes has shown us where our strengths and weaknesses lie, and we now know what to improve for shooting of further scenes in the piece.

Starting to film- First Part

Starting off the process
When we decided to begin filming, we thought that it would be best to film the shortest clips first, so that it would give us more time to focus on the climax of the opening; therefore, we my group and I agreed that the best thing to do would be to film the CCTV Shots, as they would not take long to do.

I went out after dark, onto the council estate, to show that the CCTV Shots were taken in the evening and to start showing the location in which we are going to be filming the rest of the piece.  I used to Tri-Pod to ensure that all of the shots were still and at relatively same angle. Due to the lack of height, some of the camera shots did not look like CCTV, and therefore had to be deleted. If I was to shoot this part again, I would gain some height by standing on something.

Survey Results- What did I find out?

After conducting the survey, and compiling the results, we read through each answer thoroughly and found out that the majority vote for 'favorite genre of movie' was Horror, and 'least favorite genre of movie' was Romance. This is again another reason why as a group, we chose to film a Horror, as it will appeal better to our target audience of teenagers (13-18)
As well as this, there was a variety of reasons given about 'What encourages you to watch a film.' This includes well known actors, gripping story lines and the build up of suspense and tension; this shows us that these would need to be included in our short film.

Cast List-Choosing who to use

For our piece, we wanted to ensure that the the people that we chose fit the part that they would be playing.

First of all, being a horror movie, we would need stereotypical characters. First of all, you always have the 'dumb blonde' girl, who ends up being killed before everyone else. For this, we would use myself. For the other girl, we wanted brunette or dark haired girl. For this we chose our other group member Monique. The other girl from the party scene, we wanted a stereotypical 'ditsy' brunette, so for this we chose our friend Freya.  For the creepy girl, we wanted a relatively tall girl, so for this we chose Amber. She also has previous special effects knowledge, to create cuts and bruises. Lastly, we chose our friend Cem to be the police officer, as he has a classic cockney accent and would fit the part.
